Al-Haj Automotives, the authorised distributor and assembler of Proton vehicles in Pakistan, has launched the all-new Saga sedan which is said to be the most affordable. It has been preceded by another Proton variant X70 last year in December. The Saga on sale is being offered in five variants, including the Saga MT and AT, the range-topping Saga Ace AT, as well as the limited-edition Saga R3 and is all set to compete in the B-segment sedan market in Pakistan. What makes it interesting is that is available with either an automatic or manual transmission – the latter feature is not available globally.
Proton Saga sedan is said to give tough competition to the already available players Toyota Yaris, Honda City, and Changan Alsvin in the Pakistani car market. Although the features of the car are not strikingly impressive yet the price factor is successful in turning the heads around.
Here is a brief review to check what’s all the hype about :
Proton saga can be regarded as a stunner in terms of design. There is no innovation in the interior and exterior of the car and might look a generation old. It comes with halogen headlamps, 14-inch steel wheels with plastic covers, rear parking sensors, powered side mirrors with indicators and remote trunk release. Other interesting features are LED daytime running lights, a small boot spoiler, a multi-function steering wheel, a seven-inch touchscreen media system with smartphone mirroring, a reverse camera and an N95 cabin filter. The interior of the car is not made of shiny plastic but durable material. Still, it doesn’t give any advantage to the car in terms of looks as compared to its competition.
The Saga sedan comes in three variants Standard Manual, Standard Auto, and Ace Auto with the same engine option i.e a 1299 cc, naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 94 hp and 120 Nm of torque
The features may vary according to the variant:
- Immobilizer System
- Adjustable Steering with Infotainment Controls
- Remote Trunk Opener
- Dual front airbags
- ISO Fix Child Seat Anchors
- 7-inch Smart Infotainment System
- Fog lamps
- Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
- Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
- Brake Assist (BA)
- DRLs (Ace Trim Only)
- Stability control (Ace Trim Only)
- Traction control (Ace Trim Only)
- Hill-start Assist (Ace Trim Only)
- Front parking sensors (Ace Trim Only)
- Reverse camera (Ace Trim Only)
- 15 Inch Alloy Wheels (Ace Trim Only)
- Standard Manual: Rs. 1,975,000
- Standard Auto: Rs. 2,125,000
- Ace Auto: Rs. 2,225,000
- R3 Manual: Rs. 2,175,000
- R3 Auto: Rs. 2,425,000
The price factor here not only makes it the tough competitor of subcompacts sedans but also provides an opportunity to take on the monopoly of the hatchbacks in the automobile market.
